A note from Nancy Kingsbury, owner of Learning Strategies:

As many of you know, I have been an educator for over 20 years, with an undergraduate degree in Learning Disabilities and a Masters in Reading.  I have worked with all age groups from Kindergarten to Junior College, teaching all major subjects, including Reading, Writing and Math.   My experience includes working as a Learning Consultant for  Special School District of St. Louis County and teaching in both public and parochial schools.  I am a past president of Blue Springs, Missouri IRA (International Reading Association), and a current member of both IRA and ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.) My training and experience working with children challenged by learning disabilities, attention deficit or behavioral disorders has reinforced my belief in the following learning concepts– for all children:

  • Each student has an individual learning style; learning is enhanced when the student is keenly aware of his/her style and uses it to process new information

  • Students can be taught learning strategies that will help them overcome the many challenges they face throughout the school year, guaranteeing the best chance for success and academic achievement.
